The Heat Transfer laboratory focuses on experimental and computational studies on Thermo-fluid sciences and its applications. Applications include innovative technologies for solar thermal power, advanced cooling technologies using loop heat pipes (for space crafts), heat sinks with phase change materials, jet-impingement cooling and adsorption based cooling technologies. Basic and applied research on solidification and materials processing is carried out extensively in this laboratory focusing mainly on development of advanced computational techniques for solidification and performing laboratory scale experiments with metal - analogue systems. Corresponding solidification and casting experiments with metallic alloys are carried out at National Facility for Semisolid Forming laboratory (NFSSF). This laboratory focuses on innovative technology development for semi-solid metal processing leading to development of light weight high strength automobile components.
